Born February 15, 1902 in Fukuoka Prefecture, Imayama Masuki studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Kōno Josui and Kojima Hōdō. He began teaching in 1952. He was a member of Chikuyū-sha and was active as a teacher and performer for over 50 years.
