Born October 10, 1905 in Fukuoka Prefecture, Ueda Chikusen (Ueda Senzō) studied Kinko-ryū shakuhachi under Yamazaki Chikuin (Kawase Junsuke lineage). He started teaching in 1935. Active in the shakuhachi world for over 50 years, he was a member of Chikuyū-sha and the Fukuoka Sankyoku Kyōkai.
