Mitsuzaki Kengyō

光崎 検校

1800 ca. - 1853

Compositor

At the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, under the influence of the national studies of Motoori Norinaga and others, he entered the era of retrospectives, and composed purely koto songs, which brought about a major turning point in the history of koto.

He revived the koto, making it not subordinate to the shamisen, and influenced Yoshizawa Kengyo. He is in the same class as Kikuoka Kengyo. His koto teacher is Yaezaki Kengyō.
